Prime Cattle

Total Yarding: 1550

There was no sale last week, contributing to a larger yarding of 1558 mixed quality cattle. There were several pens of high yielding, well finished yearlings along with large runs of yearlings to suit the feedlot buyers and the restockers. There was an increased number of plainer cattle, and heavy grown steers were well supplied. All the usual buyers were operating, selling to a stronger market.

Yearlings to suit the trade were up to 10c dearer, selling from 265c to 325c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers lifted 4c and those over 400kg jumped 8c, selling from 265c to 365c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed or return to the paddock were considerably dearer, making from 240c to 302c/kg. Weaner cattle attracted strong competition from the restockers, with the steers ranging from 247c to 342 c and the heifer portion selling from 155c to 298c/kg.

Heavy grown steers were firm to a few cents better, topping at 315c and grown heifers were up 3c, making from 215c to 289c/kg. Cows got a bit of momentum as the sale progressed, selling to dearer trends, with the 2 and 3 scores making from 120c to 2115c and the heavy prime cows reaching 245c/kg.
