Prime Lamb & Sheep

There was an increase in lamb numbers and the quality remains mixed. Each agent had 6 or 7 pens of well finished lambs but the quality fell away quickly. Stores and secondary trade weights were well supplied and heavy and extra heavy lambs were limited. The market trend was stronger.

Store lambs to 20kg sold from $80 to $127/head for the crossbred lambs. The 3 and 4 score trade lambs 20 to 24kg were $4 to $5 dearer ranging from $157 to $184/head and averaged 760c to 780c/kg. Heavy lambs to 26kg reached $209 and lambs to 30kg were $7 dearer ranging from $203 to $219/head. Extra heavy lambs reached $220/head. Best of the heavy hoggets sold to $155/head.

Mutton numbers lifted and the quality was very mixed. Competition was solid and prices dearer. Medium weight ewes sold from $66 to $102/head. Heavy crossbred ewes ranged from $98 to $138 and heavy Merinos $107 to $124/head.
