Market Report – 12 January 2022

Total Yarding: 6757

Numbers were back and the quality again was mixed with some very good shorn lambs alongside lambs that were light and lacked finished. All weights of unshorn lambs were in demand from restockers and the trade buyers were mostly after the heavier shorn lambs. Light lambs were well supplied and there were only limited numbers of trade weights and a better penning of heavy lambs. The market trend was dearer.

The unshorn lambs to restockers sold $5 to $10 dearer and ranged from $90 to $188/head. The few trade lambs lifted $5 to $9 and sold from $176 to $217 or 820c to 850c/kg cwt and heavy weights $195 to $229/head.

Shorn trade weights to 24kg lifted up to $20 and ranged from $178 to $218/head and averaged 880c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs 24kg to 26kg $210 to $220 and lambs estimated 26kg and heavier topped at $250/head.

Mutton numbers were steady and the quality was mixed with all weights and grades offered. Prices were dearer on the medium weight mutton and heavy crossbred ewes were firm. Medium weight ewes $114 to $164 and heavy crossbred ewes $185 to $217/head. Best Merinos reached $190/head. Merino wethers reached $220/head.
