Market Report – 2 May

Total Yarding: 27,605

Lamb numbers increased and the quality was a little plainer with plenty of 2 score lambs for the re-stockers and feeders. There was a small run of medium and heavy trade weights but heavy lambs were limited in volume. All the usual buyers were operating in a firm market.

The light 2 score restocking lambs sold to $119/head. Medium and heavy trade lambs were firm from $126 to $138/head to average 560c to 600c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs have sold at a similar prices from $142 to $164/head. Extra heavy lambs reached $174/head. The best of the hoggets made $165/head for very heavy weights.

Mutton numbers lifted and quality was mixed. There were plenty of light and medium weights along with a good number of heavy weights. Prices were $9 cheaper on the lighter and plainer medium weight sheep with the 2 scores $57 to $116/head. Heavy crossbreds improved $15 but more weights was offered in larger lines, making from $110 to $164 and Merinos reached $142/head.
