Prime Lamb & Sheep

Lamb numbers lifted and quality was similar. There were plenty of light and medium weight lambs in store condition, prime trade and heavy lambs were in limited numbers in each agents runs. There was an increase in shorn store lambs which are bringing a premium. There were not as many restockers in the market but all the usual trade and export buyers were operating. The market sold to a cheaper market with quality the main driver.

Store lambs 16 to 20kg cwt $115 to $145/head. 2 score processing lambs to 18kg cwt were firm $64 to $126/head. Trade lambs to 24kg were back $3 with competition from store buyers and sold from $169 to $191/head averaging 745c/kg after reaching 785c/kg cwt. Heavy weight 24 to 26kg $184 to $192/head were $9 cheaper and lambs to 30kg sold from $196 to $208/head. The best of the heavy hoggets ranged from $120 to an outstanding pen reaching $178/head.

Mutton numbers eased and the quality was only fair with mostly light and medium weights penned. Prices were dearer on the light sheep and firm to $5 cheaper on the heavy weights. Light ewes sold from $17 to $35/head and medium weight ewes $59 to $102/head. Heavy crossbreds sold from $95 to $130/head.
