Total Yarding: 204

Numbers improved and the quality was good. Weaners made up the bulk and there were only limited numbers of yearlings. Grown cattle were very limited and around 20 cows were penned along with a few open auction cow/calf units. The market sold to a dearer trend.

Weaners lifted 40c to 50c/kg with the return of a feeder order and a slightly bigger restocking gallery. Steers sold from 555c to 590c and heifers 530c to 570c/kg for the medium weights. Feeder yearling steers were 6c stronger selling from 509c to 540c. Heifers jumped nearly 100c, mostly quality driven and the medium and heavy weights ranged between 490c and 536c/kg.

Grown steers to feed on reached 491c and cows were up to 50c dearer with the bulk of the cows 3 and 4 score heavy weights and sold from 320c to 350c/kg. Open auction cow and calf units sold to $2870/unit.

Prime Lamb & Sheep – 17 August 2022 Total Yard Prime Lamb & Sheep – 17 August 2022

Total Yarding: 4639
Numbers slipped and the quality improved. There were good lines of heavy trade and heavy lambs and limited numbers of light and medium trade lambs. Competition was strong especially for short skin lambs. The lift in quality and larger drafts of lambs resulted in dearer prices.

The light 2 score processing lambs sold from $80 to $118/head. Medium and heavy trade lambs to 24kg cwt sold $8 to $10 dearer and ranged from $142 to $196/head averaging 730c to 780c/kg with the best lambs over 800c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs 24 to 26kg gained $6 and ranged from $155 to $198/head. The 26 to 30kg lambs sold from $173 to $218 and extra heavy weights reached $222/head averaging 650c to 680c/kg cwt. Best priced hogget reached $182/head.

Mutton numbers were similar and the quality mixed. Not all the usual buyers operated and the market eased $10 to $20/head. Medium weight ewes sold from $90 to $127/head, heavy crossbred ewes $160 to $171 and bare shorn Merino wethers reached $168 and long skins $172/head.

Prime Lamb & Sheep – 11 August 2022 Total Yard Prime Lamb & Sheep – 11 August 2022

Total Yarding: 6681

Lamb numbers lifted and the quality was mostly plain. There were a few pens of very good heavy and extra heavy weights but quality and condition fell away quickly to a lot of lambs that lacked cover. All weights were penned and all the usual buyers were operating in a cheaper market. Prices slipped $4 on the heavy trades and $8 to $10 on the heavy and extra heavy lambs.

The 2 score processing lambs to 16kg cwt sold from $74 to $109/head. Medium and heavy trade weights to 22kg ranged from $101 to $164 and 22 to 24kg lambs $165 to $175/head. The better lambs were averaging 720c to 750c/kg while the secondary lambs mostly 600c to 650c/kg. Heavy lambs sold from $165 to $208 and extra heavy weights $209 to $238/head. Best priced hogget reached $170/head.

Mutton numbers were back and the quality was very mixed. Some pens of ewes were pushed by restockers but the overall trend was cheaper. Medium weight ewes sold from $110 to $138/head. Heavy crossbreds $178 to $188 and the best Merino ewes reached $165/head.
