Market Report – 5 April

Numbers were similar in the lamb run. Quality was fair to good with only a small run of well-finished trade weights offered. Heavy lambs were limited and there were plenty of secondary lambs, which attracted strong competition from re-stockers. All the usual buyers operated in a dearer market.

Restocking lambs sold from $90 to $151/head. The medium and heavy trade lambs were $5 to $8 dearer ranging from $132 to $158/head averaging 670c/kg. Heavy lambs ranged from $165 to $184/head to average between 650c and 665c/kg. A pen of extra heavy lambs estimated to weigh 28kg topped at $200/head. The best of the heavy hoggets reached $160/head.

Mutton numbers were steady and the quality very mixed but contained some well-covered sheep. Prices lifted $10 to $15/head. Medium weights sold from $84 to $125/head. Heavy crossbred ewes reached $150 and Merino wethers $149/head. Most averaged around 500c/kg.
