Prime Cattle

Numbers eased for a mixed quality offering. Young cattle were limited and there were good numbers of plain light grown heifers and cows. Grown steers were also limited. Not all of the usual buyers were operating with some of the local restockers not attending but there was a southern operator going on the lighter cows and lighter weaners.

The limited number of weaner steers sold from 270c to 300c and heifers 206c to 280c/kg and Limo cross calves to feed reached 303c/kg. With fewer yearlings penned they sold to a cheaper trend to feed with the steers mostly 270c to 320c and heifers 242c to 278c/kg. Heavy trade cattle were firm, steers sold to 290c and heifers 280c/kg.

The light grown heifers ranged from $160c to 218c and the few prime heavy weights reached 266c/kg. Prime grown steers 285c to 300c/kg. Cows were 7c to 10c stronger on the medium weights and leaner heavy weights and prime cows were firm. Medium weights sold from 172c to 197c and heavy 3 and 4 score cows 185c to 211c/kg.
