Prime Cattle

There was strong bidding for heavy grown cattle selling to a dearer trend, in a yarding of 980 mixed quality cattle, the same number as last week. There were a few good pens of feeder steers, yearlings to suit the trade were in limited supply and there were plenty of young cattle showing the effects of the colder weather. All the regular buyers were operating. Cows and heavy grown cattle were dearer, plainer quality types were much cheaper.

Yearlings to suit the trade were 6c better, selling from 250c to 334c/kg. Feeder steers lifted 8c, ranging from 240c to 379c, and heifers to feed eased a few cents, to average 279c/kg. Young cattle returning to the paddock were considerably cheaper, quality related, with the steers selling from 220c to 346c, and the heifers made from 80c to 270c/kg.

Heavy grown steers were much dearer topping at 336c, and heifers reached 288c/kg. Lighter 2 score cows and to process were mostly firm, to a few cents easier, selling from 100c to 160c, and heavy 3 and 4 score cows jumped 12c, topping at 248c/kg. Heavy bulls ranged from 160c to 220c/kg.
