Market Report 7-8-2024

Prime Lamb & Sheep

There was a drop in numbers and the quality also fell with a very large percentage of lambs were light and presented in 1 and 2 score condition. There was only a very limited number of lambs in prime condition. The highlight of the sale was a pen of very heavy lambs that sold to a top of $280/head while the rest of the yarding slipped between $10 and $15/head.

The 2 score processing lambs to 18kg sold from $56 to $125/head and ranged from 500c to 600c/kg cwt for most. The trade run 20 to 24kg sold from $146 to $184/head averaging 700c to 750c/kg. Heavy weights 24 to 26kg sold from $177 to $195/head with most 735c to 750c/kg, lambs to 30kg sold from $193 to $207/head. The best priced hogget reached $153/head.

Mutton numbers also eased and the quality was very mixed. There was less competition but prices were $5 to $10 dearer on the better covered lines. The very light ewes sold from $8 to $34/head. Medium weights $64 to $110 and heavy crossbreds reached $138/head. Merino wethers reached $140/head. Most of the better covered lines sold from 360 to 400c/kg cwt. The light sheep in 1 score condition were cheaper.
