Market Report 8-8-24

Prime Cattle

There was a smaller yarding of 525 mixed quality cattle. There were a few good lines of yearling heifers suiting the feedlot buyers, along with some well-bred weaner steers returning to the paddock and also a larger number of plainer types. Finished cattle were in limited supply and there were 80 cows. Due to the plainer quality the market sold to a mostly softer trend.

Yearlings to process sold from 315c to 355c/kg. Feeder steers were considerably cheaper, quality and quantity related, making from 260c to 370c/kg. Heifers to feed were 10c dearer, ranging from 255c to 324c/kg. There was still strong demand for the better-quality weaner steers, topping at 432c/kg, however the plainer types were much harder to sell. The heifer portion were variable, selling from 110c to 320c/kg.

Heavy grown steers were price unchanged, with the steers making from 200c to 370c, and the heifers followed similar trends reaching 340c/kg. Two score cows slipped 10c, selling from 160c to 220c, and heavy prime cows were firm, topping at 312c/kg. Heavy bulls to process were cheaper, with the bestselling for 225c/kg.
