Market Report 30th August 2024

Store Cattle

The monthly store sale offered 684 head and there were several large drafts of one mark steers and heifers, there were a few pens of cow and calf units and a couple of pens of PTIC heifers. Most of the weaners were around 11 to 12 months of age and the yearling 15 months and older. Angus cattle again dominated the breeds. The market sold to stronger trends as the weather starts to warm and feed grows.

The big lines of weaner steers weighing from 276kg to 340kg sold from $1240 to $1450/head and averaged between 425c and 449c/kg, lighter weights at 210kg reached $1130/head or 540c/kg. The big run of heifers at 294kg topped at $1040/head or 353c/kg and lighter weights at 224kg reached 890/head or 397c/kg. Yearling steers sold to $1480/head to average 359c/kg and heifers reached $1320/head.

Cow and calf units were also stronger and sold from $1600 to $2000/unit and all had very young calves at foot. The handful of PTIC heifers ranged from $1140 to $1350/head.
