Prime Cattle

It was a smaller yarding of 653 mixed quality cattle. Weaners made up half of the offering, attracting strong competition for some pens, despite many showing the effects of winter. Finished cattle for processing were in limited supply, and there were a few good runs of feeder cattle, along with 70 cows. All the usual buyers were operating, selling to a mostly dearer trend.

Trade yearling steers topped at 353c, and the heifers reached 335c/kg. Strong demand from feedlot buyers remains. Medium weight feeder steers sold from 280c to 410c, and heavyweights made from 275c to 392. Heifers to feed ranged from 235c to 330c/kg. Weaners returning to the paddock were up to 60c dearer for some pens, with the steers selling from 182c to 472c, and the heifers sold from 120c to 340c/kg.

Heavy grown steers were price unchanged, reaching 362c, and heifers topped at 320c/kg. Cows continue to sell at cheaper prices. Light 2 scores sold from 150c to 215c, and the best heavy prime cow made 302c/kg. The limited supply of heavy bulls to process sold from 180c to 240c/kg.
