Prime Cattle

Total Yarding: 1,073

There was a slight increase in numbers, for a total yarding of 1078 fair to good quality cattle. There were some good runs of well finished yearlings to suit the processors, along with some outstanding pens of heavy grown cattle. Feeder cattle lacked the quality of previous sales and there were 400 cows. Weaners were in limited supply, due to the 7000 head in tomorrow. All the usual buyers were operating, selling to a mostly firm to stronger market.

Trade yearlings lifted 6c, selling from 285c to 344c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers were also 6c dearer, making from 285c to 371c, and those over 400kg to feed, were back 10c, quality related, ranging from 260c to 361c/kg. Heifers to feed slipped 7c to average 284c/kg.

Heavy grown cattle were firm to a few cents better, making from 200c to 330c/kg. 2 and 3 score cows, price unchanged and heavy prime cows jumped 4c, selling from 240c to 271c/kg. The best heavy weight bull topped at 240c/kg.
