Market Report – 13 June 2024

Prime Cattle

Total Yarding: 887

Numbers decreased by 100, for a total yarding of 890, mixed quality cattle. Cows made up 60% of the offering and there were some good lines of well-bred weaners returning to the paddock. The highlight was steers reaching 408c, and heifers topped at 350c/kg. There was a limited supply of finished cattle and there were several pens of plainer types. Not all the usual buyers were operating. Cows were dearer, other categories sold to cheaper trends.

Yearlings to suit the trade sold from 255c to 330c/kg. Feeder cattle were up to 15c cheaper, with the steers ranging from 270c to 360c, and the heifers made from 220c to 290c/kg. There was strong demand for the better-quality weaners from the restockers, selling to dearer trends and the plainer types were considerably cheaper.

Heavy grown steers, price unchanged, making from 225c to 300c, and the heifer portion also firm selling from 230c to 292c/kg. There is still strong demand for cows to process.  Lighter 2 score cows ranging from 122c to 185c, and heavy prime cows sold from 228c to 262c/kilo. Bulls to process were cheaper, with the best reaching 210c/kg.
