Market Report 15 August 2024

Prime Cattle

Numbers continue to decrease, with a yarding of 388, plainer quality cattle. There were a few pens of well-bred weaners, along with several runs of secondary types. There were some good lines of yearling heifers suiting the feedlot buyers, reaching 331c/kg, along with a few pens of finished grown steers ,and there were 100 cows. Lack of numbers and plainer quality resulted in a mostly cheaper market.

There were no yearlings suitable to process. Lighter feeder steers were cheaper, selling from 280c to 370c, and the heavyweights were firm to a few cents better, topping at 375c/kg. Heifers to feed lifted 5c, making from 270c to 331c/kg. Better quality young steers made up to 405c/kg, with some pens of the plainer types handed in. Heifers followed similar trends, selling from 125c to 308c/kg.

Grown steers made from 260c to 355c, and the heifers sold from 240c to 300c/kg. Cows were back 5c, with the lighter 2 scores selling from 150c to 210c, and heavy 3 and 4 scores made from 276c to 300c/kg. The best heavy weight bull to process made 243c/kg.
