Market Report – 17 May 2024

Special Weaner Cattle

Total Yarding:  6,014

Numbers remained similar with around 4000 steers and 2000 heifers penned for the feature weaner sale. The quality was good and there was more weight penned with more cattle weighing more than 300kg. Light weight cattle were limited. Around 95 percent of the offering was Angus or Angus cross cattle. There was a large group of buyers keen to purchase the larger pens of steers at a premium but over the whole yarding prices were very close to firm of both steers and heifers.

Light steers under 200kg sold from $640 to $775/head and heifers $380 to $580/head. Medium weights to 280kg ranged from $680 to $1150/head for steers and heifers sold from $530 to $860/head. Heavy steers ranged from $930 to $1530/head and heifers $760 to $1230/head for Angus heifers weighing 406kg. Most of the steers sold in the range of 380c to 410c and a pen of light steers reached 445c/kg. The heifers ranged mostly between 270c to 310c/kg.
