Market Report – 21 June 2023

Prime Lamb & Sheep

Total Yarding: 10,671

Lamb numbers eased and the quality was definitely plainer with a fall in the number of prime lambs. Secondary lambs that lack weight and cover were well supplied. Trade weight lambs were in reasonable numbers while heavy and extra heavy weights were limited. Not all the usual buyers were operating and some buyers were selective, that and the plainer quality resulted in the market dropping around $15/head.

The 2 score processing lambs to 18kg cwt sold from $46 to $83/head. Trade lambs 20 to 22kg sold from $95 to $116 and the 22 to 24kg lambs $120 to $139/head. Heavy lambs to 26kg ranged from $134 to $144 and heavier weight to 30kg cwt $141 to $175/head. The few extra heavy lambs sold from $180 to $190/head. Most of the better lambs averaged between 500c and 550c/kg cwt. Best of the heavy hoggets reached $125/head.

Mutton numbers lifted and the quality was plainer with more light 1 and 2 score ewes penned and heavy weights limited. Prices were $20/head cheaper. Light ewes $22 to $40/head. Medium weights $64 to $113 and heavy crossbred ewes $97 to $130/head.
