Market Report – 22 March

Lamb numbers were down considerably to 4,800 head in a fair to poor quality yarding of mostly 16-22kg lambs. Few heavy or extra heavy lambs were present. Restockers and processors battled for the mostly secondary stock in a rain affected market that was $7 to $14/head dearer and saw prices exceeding 700c/kg cwt.

Light trade weight lambs made $127 to $135, medium trade were making from $128 to $157 to average 644c/kg and the heavy trade lambs sold from $152 to $166/head.

Mutton numbers were back also in a mixed yarding of mainly fair to poor quality this week where the market improved on most grades by $5 to $15/head and prices made up to 540c/kg. 18-24kg Merino ewes sold from $78 to $115 and average 419c/kg. Heavy crossbred ewes made to $155, Wethers sold to $151 and Hoggets made to $142/head.
