Market Report – 24 April 2019

Total Yarding: 5,039

A short week resulted in reduced numbers and the quality was mixed. Trade weights were in reasonable numbers and heavy lambs in very short supply. Light weights sold strongly to restockers and processors. Most of the lambs were crossbreds. The market sold to a similar trend.

Restocking lambs made from $124 to $155/head for lambs to feed on. The 2 score processing lambs sold from $106 to $136/head. Medium and heavy trade weights to 22kg sold from $142 to $166 and heavy lambs received from $163 to a top of $192/head. Carcase prices sold from 700c to 720c/kg cwt on average. Hoggets reached $165/head.

Mutton numbers were also back and prices were slightly cheaper on a smaller number of sheep. Light ewes sold from $38 to $80/head. Medium weight ewes made from $94 to $118 and heavy crossbred ewes sold from $140 to $165/head. Carcase prices averaged from 500c to 520c/kg cwt on the medium and heavy sheep.
