Market Report – 24 August 2022

Prime Lamb & Sheep

Total Yarding: 4558

Lamb numbers were similar and the quality continues to be very plain with wintry condition continuing in the supply area. Trade weight lambs were best supplied and there were a few well covered heavy and extra heavy lambs along with a lot of secondary lambs. Not all the usual buyers were operating and the market fell $25 to $30/head on the light and trade lambs and $10 to $18/head on heavy and extra heavy weights. The biggest influence in the cheaper market was the quality of the lambs.

The 2 score processing lambs ranged from $58 to $100/head. Medium and heavy trade lambs to 24kg sold from $94 to $159/head and averaged 600c to 630c/kg. Heavy lambs sold between $155 and $196 and extra heavy lambs over 30kg cwt $180 to $210/head or 550c to 600c/kg cwt. Merino lambs back to the paddock reached $145/head. Best priced hogget reached $159/head.

Mutton numbers eased and the quality and condition slipped. Prices were $20 cheaper on the light mutton and $30/head softer on the limited supply of heavy crossbred ewes. Light mutton ranged from $45 to $78/head. Heavy crossbred ewes $125 to $158/head.
