Market Report – 25 May

Total Yarding: 1,294

Numbers almost doubled from the last special store sale in April, for a total yarding of 1,285 plainer quality cattle. Over half of the yarding was made up of weaner heifers, 497 weaner steers and 77 cows and calves. Most of the cattle were showing the effects of the drier conditions and there was not as many buyers operating, selling to a cheaper trend.

Angus weaner steers weighing 300kg topped at $790 and equivalent Black Baldies made $740/head. Weaner steers between 200-280kg made from $325 to $770, up to $60/head cheaper than last sale. Weaner heifers sold to a cheaper trend, topping at $660 for a pen of Angus heifers weighing over 280kg and those between 200-280kg averaged $495 for Angus and $523/head for European Cross.

There was a big range in PTIC heifers selling from $380 to $820/head depending on quality. Black Baldy cows with their first calf topped at $1,110, $100 cheaper than last sale. Cows with 2-4 month old calves sold from $600 to $990/unit.
