Market Report – 25 May 2022

Prime Lamb & Sheep

Total Yarding: 9,582

There was an increase in lamb numbers but the quality still remains mixed with plenty of store lambs and trade weights lacking finish. Prime trade and heavy lambs were only in reasonable numbers with extra heavy weights very limited. Not all the usual buyers operated in a cheaper market.

Most store lambs sold between $90 and $149/head. The trade lambs were $5 to $7 cheaper with lambs to 24kg cwt $154 to $189/head and averaged 730c to 770c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs to 26kg ranged from $189 to $196/head or 750c/kg cwt, heavier weights to 30kg were $3 to $4 cheaper $200 to $220/head and extra heavy lambs reached $238/head.

Mutton numbers were steady and the quality mixed but prices lifted $5 to $8/head. Medium weight ewes $118 to $175/head for Merinos. Heavy crossbred ewes $192 to $220 and Merino wethers reached $210/head for heavy weights.
