Prime Cattle

Cattle numbers eased and the quality was in contrast to last week and was mostly plain. There were limited numbers of weaners and a few light yearlings that went back to the paddock. Feeder steers and heifers were considerable plainer in quality and there was a limited offering of prime export cattle. Only 20 cows were offered. The market sold to weaker trends, largely quality driven, with only the few prime heavy cows selling to a stronger trend.

Restocking steers to 280kg ranged from 170c to 280c and heifers averaged 170c/kg. Medium and heavy feeder steers ranged from 220c to 256c and heifers 167c to 182c/kg. the only trade heifer reached 210c/kg.

Prime grown steers reached 262c and the best of the heifers 228c/kg. The handful of prime heavy cows were 6c stronger and sold from 205c to 210c/kg.
