Market Report – 9 May

Lamb numbers eased and the quality remained mixed. Well-finished trade and heavy lambs remain in short supply and there were plenty of light lambs and secondary trade and heavy weights. All the usual buyers operated in a dearer market.

Light 2 score processing lambs were $9 dearer selling from $78 to $112/head. Restocking lambs sold from $72 with trade weights to feed on reaching $129/head. Medium and heavy trade weights were $5 to $7 dearer $116 to $149/head. Heavy lambs sold to $176.20 and extra heavy lambs made $176/head. Carcase prices ranged from 560c to 600c on averaged but the best trades reached 640c/kg cwt. The best of the heavy hoggets reached $175/head.

Mutton numbers eased and quality was on the lighter side. Heavy weights were back in volume. Prices lifted $15 to $18 on light and medium weights while heavy sheep gained $2 to $5/head. Medium weights sold from $72 to $110/head. Heavy crossbreds have reached $160 and re-stockers paid to $175/head. Wethers topped at $190.60/head.
