SELX to auction first pen for the Country Education Foundation

The official opening and first cattle sale for Australia’s newest regional livestock selling centre, South Eastern Livestock Exchange (SELX), takes place on Thursday at 8:00am, with the first pen of cattle to be auctioned off for charity. Proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Country Education Foundation, Yass Branch, with the aim of supporting student’s ambitions in the agriculture industry.

“These sale yards were a dream formed in 2008, construction commenced 300 days ago and now we are only days away from opening them to livestock and the first ever sale,” said SELX Chairman, Rowena Abbey. “The Country Education Foundation supports and encourages youth to achieve their dreams and we are thrilled to be able to support the continuing education of local residents in the agricultural industry.”

The six cattle to be auctioned in the charity pen have been donated by the six local families that have invested in this project – Brendan & Rowena Abbey (Yass), Rohan & Tamara Arnold (Jeir), David & Jenny Hewlett (Yass), Col & Meagan Medway (Yass), Angus & Alex Metcalf (Young) and Norm & Christine Napper (Murrumbateman).

“I was thrilled to hear SELX would be supporting us with the auction of their very first pen of cattle,” said Nic Carmody, Chairman of the Yass Country Education Board. ”The opening will be a momentous occasion for everyone involved and the Country Education Board is honoured to be receiving the donation.”

Celebrity auctioneers on the day will be former, local agents – Geoff Darmody, Dal Hanrahan and Ian McLean.
