Prime Lamb & Sheep

Lamb numbers fell and the quality was plain to fair. Heavy lambs were limited with most secondary trades or light lambs. Restockers and light lamb processors were keen to get numbers and pushed prices higher for these lambs. The few heavy lambs were cheaper with numbers and quality effecting the competition.

Restockers paid from $110 to $134/head for lambs and they preferred shorn lambs to 18kg cwt and the average price lifted $8 to $10/head averaging around 730c/kg. The 2 score processing lambs gained $11 with mostly woolly lambs selling from $55 to $118/head. Trade lambs were $4 to $5 dearer ranging from $126 to $155/head or 590c to 620c/kg cwt on average. The 24kg and heavier lambs were $5 cheaper selling from $146 to $169/head. The best for hoggets was $140/head.

Mutton numbers fell but prices jumped to be $30 to $40/head stronger. Light ewes sold from $41 to $58/head and heavy crossbred ewes reached $136/head. Best for Merinos were wethers reaching $125/head. Most averaged from 330c to 360c/kg cwt.
