Prime Lamb & Sheep

There was an increase in lamb numbers and the quality was a little plainer. Light lambs were plentiful and trade were in reasonable numbers. The heavy and extra heavy weights were limited. Hogget numbers were back and there were several big runs of store crossbreds and trade Dorpers. Not all the usual buyers were operating and the market sold to cheaper trends.

The 2 score processing lambs were $9 cheaper selling from $54 to $109/head averaging 540c/kg cwt. Restockers paid up to $134/head for shorn second cross trade weights. Trade lambs 20 to 24kg sold mostly from $122 to $149/head. the 24 to 26kg lambs ranged from $148 to $165/head or 615c/kg and the lambs to 30kg $163 to $175/head to average 610c/kg cwt. The best of the hoggets reached $118/head and a run of hoggets averaged between 300c and 330c/kg.

Mutton numbers lifted and the quality was considerably plainer. Prices were $20 to $25/head cheaper with some lines more. Medium weight ewes sold between $33 and $54/head. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $58 to $80 and Merinos reached $85/head. Most mutton averaged from 200c to 240c/kg cwt.
