Market Report – 27 September

Total Yarding: 1,167

There was a significant increase in numbers for a total yarding of 1,167 head of plainer quality cattle. There were 300 cows, some good lines of feeder cattle, a limited supply to suit the trade and a large percentage of secondary types.

Light weaner steers to restockers sold from 170c to 259c, with heifers returning to the paddock making from 70c to 209c/kg. Middle weight yearling steers to the trade topped at 280c and the yearling heifers to processors sold from 215c to 275c/kg. Lighter feeder steers were up to 20c cheaper to average 248c and those weighing 330-400kg were also cheaper, topping at 265c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed were cheaper across all categories, due to quality related factors.

There were too few grown steers and heifers to quote. Lighter D2 cows were much cheaper, averaging 141c and the heavier 3 and 4 score cows were firm to 9c dearer, topping at 231c/kg. The best heavy weight bull reached 220c/kg.
